Kraftwerk Radio-Activity - I owned a LP/vinyl copy of this album back when I was in high school. To be honest I was a little reluctant to purchase the CD because the artwork portrait was not the same as the album I had back in the day. Boy was I pleasantly surprised.

Robots is a compilation that draws from Kraftwerk's three-album tenure with Capitol: Radio-Activity, Trans-Europe Express, and The Man-Machine. All of them are seminal albums, but too self-contained to be taken out of context as they are here.

A concept album exploring themes of broadcast communications, Radio-Activity marked Kraftwerk's return to more obtuse territory, extensively utilizing static, oscillators, and even Cage-like moments of silence to approximate the sense of radio transmission; a pivotal record in the group's continuing development, the title track -- the first they ever recorded in English -- is their most fully.
